I’m not afraid to admit it – I like IKEA. In fact, I’m a pretty big fan! IKEA products are affordable, well-designed and with a little bit of extra imagination I can use them to create something totally unique. And so can you! So now that I’ve officially come of the IKEA closet (ha!), let me tell you about an a great competition called #IKEAcatalogus that is starting in the Netherlands today (Monday August 18, 2014). Here’s the deal!
IKEA has created a special board on Pinterest that you can use as a starting point to create a moodboard for ideal bedroom or bathroom. All you have to do is create a board on Pinterest that includes the hashtage #IKEAcatalogus in the title and start pinning away. Create a moodboard of your own ideal bedroom or bathroom with images from both the IKEA Pinterest board and your own sources. You have until the week of Monday, September 15 to dream up your ideal bedroom or bathroom design.
If you win, you and the skilled interior designers of IKEA will bring your Pinterest board to life at the IKEA store in Amsterdam. But wait, there’s more! Lots more in fact – because the winner will also get a whopping 2,500 euro IKEA giftcard! Which by the way should be more than enough to create your ideal bedroom or bathroom at your own home.

To give you an idea on how to get started, let me tell you how I’ve created my own #IKEAcatalogus moodboard on Pinterest. As I’m writing this blogpost, I’m traveling through Northern Spain and Portugal. I’m on a bit of a budget, so most of the time I stay at hotels and motels that still have their vintage bathrooms intact. Check out this picture from my Instagram feed for example:
Great atmosphere, but not very practical. And how about this marble art deco sink I saw yesterday at the Serralves museum in Porto?
As you can see, vintage bathrooms are either a bit dingy or really expensive – definitely not what I have in mind for my ideal IKEA bathroom! And so for my own#IKEAcatalogus Pinterest moodboard I thought I’d simply use that vintage mint and pink color palette and add new IKEA products.
I found this great image on the #IKEAcatalogus Pinterest board that you can see below. I’ve used it and other images to create my own board. You can see the result on Pinterest – I hope this gives you enough ideas to start putting together your own board!
