I’ve always wanted to go to Tokyo but the thought of paying 60 euro’s for a Big Mac has somehow held me back. Okay, okay, I may be exaggerating but you get my point, right? You always hear those stories of how Tokyo is shockingly expensive and how you really need to bring a big bag of yens. But not anymore! I discovered yesterday that you can rent one of those teeny tiny apartments at the Nakagin Capsule Tower through AirBnB for only $30 / €22 a night. Now we’re talking! Not only do you save a sh*tload of money, you also get to stay at a soon to be demolished architectural masterpiece. The apartment has everything I need whenever I travel: a bed, wifi, airconditioning, a toilet and a shower – that admittedly only has cold water but hey, I’d be in friggin’ Tokyo!
You can see the AirBnB listing for the Nakagin Capsule Tower here. I’ve also included a beautiful photo series by Noritaka Minami to give you an impression of what an average apartment looks like.
