Ink Hotel Amsterdam – Style written in Ink

Give me a new boutique hotel with an interesting history and I’m a happy man. It’s as simple as that. As you may have seen on my Instagram feed, I’m taking a much-needed break in Cascais, Portugal. But did you know my trip started out in style last week at the newly-opened Ink Hotel Amsterdam?

The building in which the Ink Hotel is housed used to be the headquarters of De Tijd, a newspaper that – like many of its kind – is sadly no longer in existence. Still, the designers figured it would make a great starting point for a concept for the hotel. And as you can see in the pictures I took during my stay at the Printer Suite, they’ve definitely turned it into something nice. The brass and details of the original building were repeated in an all-brass bar and many, MANY shiny brass details in the hotel rooms. And let’s face it, you can’t go wrong with brass nowadays now can you?

I was greeted at the Ink Hotel by Joachim de Looij, who at twenty-nine years old is certainly the youngest hotel manager I’ve ever met. Very impressive! Joachim was kind enough to give me a tour of the fascinating building and pointed out a lot of interesting details that make up the concept of the Ink Hotel – the print in the library that was based on the original De Tijd newspaper, the typewriters that were used and the many references to time and – of course – to ink! I especially loved the original tile floor at the Pressroom restaurant, such great colors! Joachim also definitely piqued my interest when he told me about the smoked eel pizza they serve. In fact, he piqued it so much, I quit being a vegan for one night and jsut had to try it. And let me tell you, it tasted great!

The rooms at the Ink Hotel are beautifully designed and feature a very cool bathroom with Kho Liang Ie tiles and – most importantly an extremely comfortable bed. All in all, a great place to stay if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary without giving up on luxury.

The Ink Hotel is part of Accor MGallery Collection, a worldwide group of luxury hotels housed in historic buildings or other special locations. You can book your room right here.
