I have loved abandoned buildings ever since I saw the famous Marchand & Meffre pictures of the ruins of Detroit. In fact, I even spent a day in the Motor City on my honeymoon and it was a fascinating experience to say the least. On our side of the Atlantic we have some pretty amazing ruins porn as well, witness the abandoned subtropical swimming pool Tropicana that I snuck into last summer. After my visit to the Belgian city of Ghent, I have another abandoned structure to add to my list – although frankly I’m not sure if the mysterious G. Weze vintage perfume store was in fact abandoned. You’d be fooled into thinking it was, however, if you look at the shop window that was filled with Eighties perfume displays from Alain Delon, Roger & Gallet and other vintage brands. Strangely enough, everything on display looked pretty clean. I didn’t see any dust but some of the prices were still in Belgian Franks. So, Ghent locals – who can help me solve the mystery of the Weze perfume store?
Oh and by the way, check out the last picture – there was a friggin’ CASTLE down the street from this perfume store. How’s that for old world charm!
