Eames, Schmeames! That’s what I wrote about a year ago right after my visit to the fantastic Design Icons fair in Amsterdam. Now that I read back my old blogpost I think to myself, sheesh – someone got out of the wrong side of the bed that morning! But there you have it. I guess I’m going to have make up with those nice people of Design Icons when I go back this year. And you know what? I’m really looking forward to it now that I take another look at the blogpost I wrote last year. Take a look with me and let me know if you’re going to join me. Design Icons 2015 will be held on February 7 and 8 at Gedempte Hamerkanaal 231 in Amsterdam. Be there or be square!
Design Icons 2014 – Eames, Schmeames!
Can I be brutally honest with you this Monday morning? I don’t like Eames chairs. In fact, I kind of hate them. I always feel like they’re the easy way out in interior design. Just throw in a couple of Eames chairs and bing, bang, boom – you’re done. It’s boring and it’s time the world moved on to more exciting stuff. Unfortunately, it was pretty hard to avoid the dreaded old Eames chair at this weekend’s edition of Design Icons, the vintage design furniture fair in Amsterdam. Wherever you looked, there they were – Eames, Eames, Eames as far as the eye could see. Which is a bit of a shame because there was plenty of other design on display that was far more interesting. And so even I had promised myself I’d do my best to keep my pictures Eames-free, I failed miserably.
On a happier note, the Interiorator Facebook page crashed through the 1,000 followers barrier this weekend and so a big THANK YOU is in order! I love writing this blog so much and it’s a joy to see that it’s growing so fast.
