If you haven’t seen it already, you must – MUST! – check out the mysterious 1692 manual for mixing watercolors that was found recently in the Aix-en-Provence library by historian Erik Kwakkel. Written and painted by hand by someone called A. Boogert, this book provides detailed instructions on how to mix every color of the rainbow. It is a stunning work that you can check out for yourself right here.
Now, numerous blogs picked up the news yesterday and so I wasn’t sure whether I should jump on the bandwagon a day late – but I decided to do so anyway. You see, in the back of the book there is a beautiful index that is by far my favorite part of the book that is definitely worth sharing.
PS: If you’re into color as much as I am, don’t forget to check out the blogpost I wrote a while ago about Josef Albers’ Interaction of Color app.
